Baseball Tonight
TweetOn Baseball Tonight they’re having this section where fans e-mail in and offer their guesses/opinions on who they want to win the World Series. One fan wrote in:
Anyone but the Yankees! As long as we see Jeter crying in the Yankees dugout following a loss, it’s been a good postseason.
Good stuff. :) That could have been me.

Server Virtualization
TweetI’m still amazed by virtualization technology. It’s the one technology that makes so much sense to me and at the same time I’m so baffled by it. I mean, here I am, VNCed into a new virtual SQL server I’m setting up, just like I’m remotely controlling a server that has a mouse, keyboard, monitor and tower. But no, I’m remotely controlling a file that continues to change and morph as I need it to. If I decide I want to do something else, I can hit “Pause”, and with no problem at all my server can resume later. Amazing. I love the fact that this is the direction IT is moving, with Windows Server 2008 having a “core” mode that will simply exist to support virtual servers.

The Office – Fun Run
TweetWow…that’s all I have to say to season four, episode one of The Office, which debuted tonight. Without spoiling anything for the unfortunate ones who have yet to see it, there are two scenes that I really liked. One was the cold open, before the credits, and the other was one of the ones during the run. Outstanding. It was an hour-long episode, and my sister called me halfway through to recap. She had forgotten that this week’s was an hour long, and to be fair, the scene before that halfway point would have been a great place to end a half-hour episode. Good stuff. Can’t wait until next week.

Halo 3
TweetI’m waiting for my stupid Telnet client to install (why did John Vista decide he didn’t want Telnet in his version of Windows by default?) so I can finish my stupid networking homework, so why not post the most awesome news of the day? There is Halo 3 in a computer lab on campus, with full flat-screen plasma TVs. And the computer science students have 24/7 access.

Clueless Browns
TweetBEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow didn’t practice Wednesday because of a partially dislocated left shoulder, an injury sustained during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss in Oakland.
Browns coach Romeo Crennel referred to Winslow’s injury as a “mild subluxation,” or separation.
Crennel was asked by a confused reporter if he meant that Winslow had separated his shoulder.
“I did not say separation — subluxation,” Crennel said. “I don’t know what that means either, but that’s what they tell me.”
I’m not sure what scares me more: the fact that Crennel really has no idea what he’s doing, or the fact that our #1 wide receiver (they call him a tight end, but we know better) is potentially out.

Indians games
TweetMan, it’s gonna’ be a good day tomorrow. The Indians are playing a doubleheader and somehow playing one “at home” and one on the road. I can’t imagine the last time that happened in baseball, especially when home and road were about 2400 miles apart :).
It’s really nice that we clinched as early as we did though, if we hadn’t done so I’d be worried about using regulars in these games. As it is now, we’re able to use minor leaguers to give the starters some time off and get everyone freshened up.
As for the playoffs, I’ve heard a lot of people say, “Well, what if they play the Yankees?” And it’s true, the Indians were 0-6 against the Yankees this year. But think about this: in those six games, C.C. Sabathia did not start and Fausto Carmona only started once (and pitched well enough to get the win, that was the day of Borowski’s horrific meltdown). If things go well for the Indians, it’s possible that Fausto and C.C. could pitch twice each. Two Cy Young candidates pitching four games in a five game series? I’ll take my chances against the Yankees inconsistent pitching. Other than Chien-Ming Wang, the Yankees don’t really have an ace (Roger Clemens? He’s waaaaay overpaid for what he did this year) and the bullpen is…well, let’s just say the Royals make a lot of pitchers look good, especially Joba Chamberlain. The way the Indians work pitchers, the bullpen could be in there by the sixth inning.
The Red Sox, on the other hand, have some HUGE pitchers that I wouldn’t want to face any day. We’ll see what happens the rest of the way, but today I’d take the Yankees in a heartbeat.

This is pretty cool…I can simply e-mail this address and it’ll automatically get posted on my blog. Something McJournal could NEVER do J.

Firewall
TweetAnyone know how to add a per-user exception to a Cisco PIX firewall? No one at Case does. It has to be possible, I’d imagine Cisco would have built this in.

Transition
TweetWell folks, it’s official. I’ve transitioned from my setup at http://www.mcjournal.org/ and have moved on to Blogger. I just felt like it was time to move on, and no one besides me used that site anyway. So now here we are, from the beautiful servers of Google. I’ll be trying to post my musings here occasionally, hopefully you enjoy them.
